Description: According to the world Road Safety statistics, driver fatigue is a serious problem resulting in hundreds of thousands of road accidents each year. While it's not possible to calculate the exact number of sleep related crashes, research shows that fatigue may be a contributory factor in up to 25% of road accidents. It's known that a human being can't fight the state of sleepiness. Neither stopping on the roadside for having a rest, nor winding down the window to get fresh air, nor turning the radio up to stay awake, nor a cup of coffee can effectively help. Only proper sleep is genuine cure for fatigue. In consideration of the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020 our company The Lucky Planet ( based in Australia, Perth ) has come up with an initiative that aims to reduce car accidents and save lives of fatigue affected drivers on the roads. A survey revealed that most of drivers who feel tired and do realise the necessity of taking a break wouldn't stop on the roadside to sleep in their cars. Instead, they would prefer to keep driving to their destinations. Unfortunately, many of such trips result in serious injuries and fatalities. Here we come up with a solution. Our new project is being planned to be implemented by means of a mobile application. The app will instantly connect drivers with local hosts: hotels, motels and other types of short-rented accommodation, in real time without booking in advance. By combining existing technology of detecting the state of tiredness with immediate access to vacant local rented properties, our new app will allow drivers to be instantly directed to nearest places for taking a sleep break. Some of the application’s features will include: * pre-registration that will allow bypassing the traditional check in / out procedures; * automatic detection of nearest available hosts and navigating to their destinations; * accommodation access executed through the app's Smart Lock system; * an option to pay upon leaving a host through a digital wallet integrated into the app; * a “stay now – pay later” option. Our company is also planning to collaborate with GPS manufacturers in terms of integrating the new app as an “emergency mode” into navigators for those who are in danger of falling asleep behind the wheel. Alongside with raising funds for the project our company also aims to raise awareness of the fatigue problem amongst the global community of drivers. To help funding our project we have launched a crowdfunding campaign: (URL removed) Should you have any questions or consider investing into developing our mobile application, please don't hesitate to reach us via email: (URL removed). We recently submitted our initiative to be reviewed and assessed by top Road Safety authorities, such as the UNRSC and the UNECE . And we have received a very positive feedback from one of them. Jean Todt, UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Road Safety, in his appraisal highly appreciates our initiative that “ would mitigate road traffic crashes through the prevention of drowsiness / tiredness while driving”. He calls the project “ a fertile avenue to make dramatic improvements in Road Safety”.
