Kosher cheese in the u.s. and abroad is very expensive due to shipping costs and kosher supervision costs. For some reason the companies out there currently have their cheese(specifically american cheese) processed in Wisconsin and shipped to New York, only to have it shipped back to the midwest and western and southern states. The american cheese that we are purchasing nor for example in the store that I work in retails for between $18.49 and $23.99 a 3lb. brick of 108 slices.
