I was recently laid off in this tough economy after 22 years in the Marketing/Advertising business. I have worked in newspaper (with the NYT regional group), local radio stations and magazines. My experience includes group leader and Supervisor positions and extensive training in Management skills, AD development, campaign planning and budgeting.
My goal is to start a small Marketing firm to help start-up and small businesses develop a realistic plan for growth. I have, unfortunately, seen many small businesses go under in 1 to 2 years because they knew their business, but had no idea how to promote it and threw money at any AE who came in their door. Unfortunately, there are some unscrupulous people in my industry who don't care about their clients and just want to make a quick buck. I intend to offer services at discount prices.
My plan is to start small from my home office to keep expenses down. To do this, I need to upgrade my computer and printer system, get office essentials like business cards, printing materials, a dedicated phone line and running expenses for a few months. Based on research, I estimate this to be approx. $5,000.
