Description: I am presently seeking a grant for the promotion of artists, painters in particular, in the form of a publication, which I hope to expand and grow into a 32-page, full color magazine. I am located in upstate NY. It is presently a small booklet publication, its third issue just printed end-September. I am being interviewed on The Morning Show this month to advertise this very affordable promotional tool for artists. I intend to expand to an office with a Gallery above to create another very affordable place for artists to show off their talents. My experience in publishing, editing, and promoting artists is as follows: I published my own doll crafting magazine for the promotion of the fashion doll artist in 1999. It would see 13 issues, and then, just when Anderson News was about to distribute it nationally, I ran out of funds in 2001. It broke the hearts of many fashion doll makeover artists, and I had 14 subscribers globally. The advertising just never took off, but in hindsight I can see that the audience for fashion doll makeovers was very small, and advertisers just were biting. Such would not be the case with an artists’ magazine for painters (acrylic, oil, watercolor artists). I would like to let you know here that I was an administrative person for over 20 years before I published my own magazine, a 32-page, full-color publication, and over those years I had much experience with office procedure, supervision of a clerical staff, and since then have kept up with all of the most popular software applications. In fact, during the one year I took to put together Designer Dolls, single-handedly, I taught myself page design with Adobe Pagemaker, and how to enhance and crop photos with Photoshop. I educated myself with different marketing strategies, and increased my knowledge of how to navigate over the Internet. I did email blasts before they were called email blasts, and marketed this magazine globally. I needed to learn web design and html, as well, and created my own web site, where artists’ works were displayed, contests were held, and information and links were given. I created all of the features with only the assistance of my husband, his support, and his ideas. The rest of the administrative duties, including subscription fulfillment, were up to me. And I worked closely with the printers to learn more about the four-color print process. Now it is digital, and I am up to the challenge. My rough draft of a business plan is enclosed for your review. It took much thought and planning over the months. I have a location for a building in mind - a purchase, as opposed to a lease, to immediately increase the assets of the company. The upstairs to be renovated into the Art Gallery, where shows and aucions would take place. I know the cost of much of the computer equipment, software and stationery needs that I would have. Please let me know what else you would need for me to be able to make this dream come true for artists throughout the north country and beyond.
