I am a school teacher in Upstate New York and I own a few hundred acres of farm land. I have successfully raised and sold beef for a profit on a small scale and would be able to do so with a larger number of cattle but I can't afford the investment in the cattle. I am looking for a partner who can assist with purchasing the cattle to raise and sell at the market. In my business plan, and what I did last year, I buy feeder calves, 300-500 lb at on average $1/lb, in the early spring and sell them in the fall, 700-900 lbs, for around the same price per pound just depends on the market. Once we buy the cattle there is no investment as I have plenty of pasture for the cattle and a river in my pasture for the water source. The beef industry is all about economics to scale and we could expand and make a steady amount of money.
