I am looking to start a holding company whose purpose is to invest in wholly owned businesses and marketable securities using a long term buy and hold strategy. The idea is to find companies, using a selective contrarian method, that have a durable competitive advantage and for whatever reason have been priced right for purchase. I believe this can be accomplished in local markets where owners need to merely transform their form of wealth, and also on a larger markets (marketable securities) where good businesses have been undervalued based on the short term outlook of traders. My long term role will simply be the selection of the top management and capital allocation.
