Description: The Lao Peoples' Democratic Republic is beginning to open up to the world. It is a slow-moving undiscovered nation with potential to be discovered. Sandwiched between Thailand and Vietnam, it has vast potential. Gold has been recently discovered there and is being mined as I write. A group of 3 Americans, one of Laotian descent, are making our third trip to Laos in October to hopefully firm up the lease of a parcel of 200+ acres of land in mountainous coffee-growing country near Salavan in southern Laos. The land has a lively river with three significant waterfalls, notable both for beauty and for hydro-electric power. A retired architect associated with Robert Trent Jones is excited about designing an 18 hole championship course that could draw the increasing number of Chinese, Vietnames, Japanese and Thai business people who play golf. This smal destination resort would feature excellent food, hiking, swimming under a waterfall, elephant riding, etc. The nearby villagers want running water and electricity as part of their motivation for leasing the land (30 YEARS). We would provide jobs and irrigation as well. Labor is still very resonable there, and a golf course and small resort facility should come in around $1,000,000 if built in the next 2 years. There is a missionary element to this project in that we would hope for this facility to also be a quiet training center for Christian leaders in southern Laos.
