Description:
With a partner of mine who recently finished her architecture degree, we plan to purchase an abandoned building and renovate it into a community center somewhere in Newark. The ground and first floors will house the community center and the program will include a gallery for urban art, classrooms, a performing arts studio, an international fair trade store, and our administration office. We plan to lease the remaining upper floors to students as university housing with the idea that these students would then volunteer part-time at the community center. We also plan to rent out space to groups already established within the community who need a practice space, further emphasizing the collaborative nature of what we are trying to do.
