Combat sports, including boxing, is an underserved market evidenced by the popularity, growth and revenues of mixed martial arts (MMA) which was widely banned until its approval in New York during April 2016. UFC™ changed combat sports by turning the focus on events rather than fighters’ records. In contrast, professional boxing has waned from an inconsistent stream of fighters and matches that excite fans. Since its glory days, boxing has suffered from lack of innovation and modernization in its format and production. The Oct. 2012 Bleacher Report states, “Boxing is not dead yet, but it needs something to jump start it and make the sport popular again.” With a global base of 260 million fans, the boxing industry is ripe for disruption.
The Opportunity: Full Throttle Boxing (FTB) is rejuvenating and setting new standards in professional boxing. FTB gives fans what they want most: frequent, exciting, hard-fought fights, a roadmap to success for fighters, and rewards based on true performance rather than prior accomplishments. FTB also leverages current trends in combat sports, reality television, mobile streaming and branding.
Full Throttle Boxing (FTB) is rejuvenating and setting new standards in professional boxing. FTB gives fans what they want most: frequent, exciting, hard-fought fights, a roadmap to success for fighters, and rewards based on true performance rather than prior accomplishments. FTB also leverages current trends in combat sports, reality television, mobile streaming and branding.
FTB revolutionizes combat sports by establishing seasons with six months of tournaments single-elimination tournaments that culminate in a Las Vegas championship finale. Champions are awarded in four weight classes. Each season contains eight local events, seven 3-round fights in each night plus the season finale event. In each local event, fans participate in matching the initial eight fighters. The first four winners are then matched in the same night with new opponents in 3-round semi-final fights, and purses are doubled. The night’s final match is between the two semi-final winners, and purses are doubled again. The final winners for each local tournament by class move on to fight 10-round matches during the big season finale event.
FTB’s revolutionary pay-for-performance structure incentivizes fighters to fight 100% full out from opening bell until the end, creating more exciting fan events. Success is instantly rewarded with total purses divided by rounds. Winners earn 80% and losers earn 20% per round. When fighters knock out opponents they earn 100% of the purses for rounds they do not have to fight, motivating knockouts as early as possible (e.g. 3rd round knock out earns 100% of purses for 7 rounds they do not fight). Guaranteed payouts are limited to minimums required by the Athletic Commissions by jurisdiction.
FTB invigorates professional boxing and brings it into the 21st century with the popular reality show championship format similar to “American Ninja Warrior” and “The Voice”. Reality TV expert (award-winning “Survivor”), John Feist, directs the planning and scripting. FTB live production expert, Marty Corwin, integrates technological innovations such as OTT streaming, 3D, virtual reality, artificial reality, green screen and 360-degree cameras. FTB’s proprietary website and app, social media, and online tools enable fan communications and deliver engaging fighter back-stories.
FTB is transforming the boxing industry by creating the first global professional boxing industry brand (similar to UFC™), making it relatable to today’s fan audiences. FTB provides affordably priced, global HD produced live events at the average cost of a movie. For featured middle-market boxing professionals, FBT delivers tracks to success, fan interaction and online support. Fan participation in match selection is unique and incentivizing for “full throttle” fighting. Production and distribution in English and Spanish, including fight interviews, live commentary and social media, meets fan needs. Languages will be added as audiences grow abroad.
