Description: I have founded Korean Institute, Inc : Center for Language and Culture to promote cross-cultural understanding in 1988 when Korea hosted Olympic for the first time in history and was in preliminary stage to reposition herself in global arena. I had come to the US in 1980 and obtained Master's and Doctorate in Philosophy of Education from Harvard Graduate School of Education. The organization did an extensive activities from Cambridge, MA through New England. However, I did not structure the organization for financial stability and most funding was done thourgh my own freelance activities. For several years especially after 9.11 the organizational activities have been interrupted and now I am trying to revitalize activities hopefully with more sustaining income. As Korea is facing a new challenge for her unification which will put her in a new status in the world community, the need for understanding and promoting Korean langauge and culture for the world community has arrived into a new height. Hence with proper funding, I and whoever is willing to support the organization will create much impact which will induce benefit in many aspects, culturally, economically, and politically, for both Korean speaking and nonKorean speaking communities from New England to the world including both South and North Korea. Since Korea is the only reamining country in the world which is divided by two regimes with different ideologies. But the way the US or world community should choose with regard to dealing with two Koreas is clearly set by two polarizing models of Vietnam and Germany. No body wants to see Korean version of Vietnamese war but any one will be relieved to see Korean version of Berlin Wall happen between two Koreas. For that it is not just Koreans but also World who need to be prepared for such will indeed impact the whole movement of Far Eastern nations and the Pacific Rim and the rest of the world as well. So I would very much like to ask for funding of 30,000 for the relief of my immediate needs and the update of our equipment and time to plan and organize for the new venture and actually creatinf some marketable products. Thank you for your reading this request and responding accordingly. Young Sook Kim, ED.D.
