Description:
Bring back from the dead an early form of, French borrowed, American entertainment, sculpting it with thought patterns from technical perfectionist director Stanley Kubrick, visual pop artist master Andy Warhol, famous musical theatre choreographer Bob Fosse, fashion avant-garde theatrical divas Lady Gaga and Kylie Minogue; re-imagining it with the help of legacy entertainment such as Broadway, Cabaret, Burlesque, pop culture and Cirque while throwing in some new age chutzpah and moxie. This is what our “Vau-de-vire” will be all about.
Vaudeville will be a destination spot for a completely live and in your face, sometimes in your seat, avant-garde entertainment experience consisting of a 2 hour show which will include a completely produced showcase of talent designed to catch the eye of today’s entertainment seeker. To continue the theme of a “destination spot” a complete five course meal will be included in the admission to Vaudeville.
Products and Services
- Main Vaudeville Show. Our main show will be a showcase of different genres coming together and creating one entertaining 2 hour event. The show will be designed around different aspects of pop culture, dance/cabaret and anything else that the production team feel that will connect with their audience at that given time. This show will run for four months and will include elements such as vocal acts, dancing acts, clowns, equilibrist, contortion, comedians, trapeze, Spanish web acts; burlesque, adage duos, big band acts etc. Included with this showcase will be a five course meal that will be totally integrated into the experience itself.
- Big Band Burlesque Night. Our secondary show will be a showcase of big band music that meets Broadway which in turns has a run in with burlesque and loses. Designed for adults, this will be a night to dress up and be entertained by some great music and fabulous female burlesque acts. The Vaudeville Burlesque Troupe will perform various acts and will also have special guest appearances by other named acts such as the Suicide Girls. These girls successfully went on a burlesque tour in 2006 and had amazing results; I plan on writing a proposal to Missy Suicide, the founder of the site, and see what her interest will be.
- E for Vaudeville Nights. To continue our reimagining and reinventing of Vaudeville, we will take the boldness and strength which is electronic music and fuse it with mechanics and grace of the performing arts to create something that a mire dance club could never achieve. Our E for Vaudeville Nights will include live vocal and dance performances, by our Vaudeville dancers, to popular electronic and pop music of our generation. We will also hire in famous Deejays that have a taste for avant-garde techniques such as Chuck Love who not only spins records, but at the same time as those records are spinning he will be playing a range of musical instruments like alto saxophone, keyboard, or trumpet himself.
- The Green Fairy. Once outlawed to most of the world but has recently been released back into society absinthe will be an eye catcher gimmick for Vaudeville. With so much avant-garde, Vaudeville style entertainment already going on there shouldn’t be a question of why such a spirit like absinthe, which was favored by 19th century artists, writers and the French Bohemians, wouldn’t have a place in our company. Vaudeville should have one of the biggest absinthe collections available for the public to try to further them into the experience of this historical period.
- Chef Showcase. A five course meal consisting of an appetizer, soup, salad, a main course and dessert will be included in the ticket price for Vaudeville. This meal will be creations of different student chefs attending the Art Institute of Houston. We will also be very happy to showcase the creations of any local Houston chefs if they would like to share them with us at Vaudeville. Vaudeville will not have a full service kitchen or a menu. There will only be the main five course meal available with three options for the main course which will be two meat options and a vegetarian option.
