Over the past year the number of new HIV infections increased dramatically. The senior population is particularly affected. In Florida alone, approximately 11,899 people aged 50 years or older have AIDS or are HIV positive. In fact, that age group makes up 14% of all new cases over the past year. One of the major reasons is a lack of sex education. Moreover, most of the HIV awareness programs are focused in places where there is a low ratio of older people.
Why Take Chances/We Have Choices lacks 501 (c)(3) nonprofit status and understands that being a Public charity would entitle WTC/WHC to do services needed right now until 501 (c)(3) status is approved, it is extremely important that we receive SEED/STRATUP funds and the input of fiscal sponsor/management to help us accomplish this passion and needed service.
Why Take Chances/We Have Choices will be a MOBILE service which will go to African American women over 50 in very low income communites, day care centers and wherever they congregate to educated this population about prevention and risk reduction of HIV/AIDS.
