Description: Harvest Homes will be an intergenerational healthcare setting. Harvest Homes will start out as one home in El Dorado Kansas that will be a Home Plus. "HOUSE BILL No. 2147—page 2 (7) ‘‘Home plus’’ means any residence or facility caring for not more than 12 individuals not related within the third degree of relationship to the operator or owner by blood or marriage unless the resident in need of care is approved for placement by the secretary of the department of social and rehabilitation services, and who, due to functional impairment, needs personal care and may need supervised nursing care to compensate for activities of daily living limitations. The level of care provided to residents shall be determined by preparation of the staff and rules and regu- lations developed by the department on aging. An adult care home may convert a portion of one wing of the facility to a not less than five-bed and not more than 12-bed home plus facility provided that the home plus facility remains separate from the adult care home, and each facility must remain contiguous. Any home plus that provides care for more than eight individuals after the effective date of this act shall adjust staffing personnel and resources as necessary to meet residents’ needs in order to maintain the current level of nursing care standards. Personnel of any home plus who provide services for residents with dementia shall be required to take annual dementia care training." So the first Harvest Home will be licensed for 8 residents, but it will probably never have over 7 residents. The home I have chosen to start has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms on the main level of the ranch style home. There is a basement with 2 full bedrooms and a main living area that will accommodate the office of myself, the operator, and hold sleeping rooms for the staff for the over night sleeping shift. This home will accommodate elderly and allow them to age in place with the ability to provide many extra services that they will not receive in a traditional nursing facility. There is a swimming pool on site, so I will incorporate aqua therapy. It is on a large lot, so I can have a garden and have horticulture therapy. I want to convert the 3 car garage into a day care for children and use the intergenerational model to help increase functionality of the aging population in the facility. The garage has it's own separate kitchen area and will be perfect for the day care setting once it is transformed. I would also eventually like to build a preschool on site since the lot is big enough to accommodate. I will have Certified Medication Aides who will do the bulk of the care taking at the home. They will not wear traditional scrubs, they will be allowed to wear street clothes to take care of the family members (my word for the residents). CMA's will be called a universal worker because they will be responsible for overseeing medication, food prep, laundry, etc. During the day, there will also be a Certified Nurses Aide on staff to assist with family care. At night, there will be a CNA that sleeps in case of emergency and there will be a CMA who stays up during the evening. There will be a Licensed Practical Nurse that is stationed at the home from Noon until 6pm every day and is on call the other hours of the day in case of an emergency. LPN's can take orders and assist in any way. A Registered Nurse will be available via on call and also for education for staff and consultation. The Operator, will take care of tasks to maintain the business. This will include book keeping, finances, marketing, networking, and fulfilling the obligation of taking care of the family of residents. This is the information about the license of a Home Plus. (URL removed) There will need to be 24 hour care provided by many members. But this will be a successful business because of the changes of healthcare in this environment. It is a person centered environment that allows the person to choose how they want to live their life. The home will provide the opportunity to be a safe place for the family of residents to reside in a happy environment.
