Description:
Urban Farms Produce is a multi-acre controlled environment farm. Select varieties of lettuce are grown “under glass” using a hydroponic floating raft technique becoming fields of red and green on pools of nutrient rich water. Computers control light, temperature and critical environmental factors in each greenhouse, optimizing the growing climate. The controlled agricultural environment provides greater yields and consistent production year round. Additional control systems make it possible to grow a pesticide-free product within a safe environment, free from bacterial contamination. During and after harvest, automated packing and shipping systems reduce handling time ensuring a healthy, long lasting product. Strategic facility placement within metropolitan areas provides distinct advantages over traditional farming. Building the facility inside the distribution area allows our produce to be grown, harvested and delivered to the customer the same day. Timely delivery is one way Urban Farms distinguishes itself from field grown crops. Our leafy vegetable crops are custom packaged with roots intact keeping the product alive and fresh in the store. The “purchase live” marketing strategy provides a sustainable advancement over the standard harvest process. By reducing distribution costs and providing direct delivery to the marketplace, Urban Farms will realize lower production costs, allowing delivery of premium quality produce at a non-premium price. Urban Farms wholesale distribution utilizes bulk packaging to reduce costs and direct delivery agreements with the wholesale markets to insure prompt distribution staying within the “same day, farm to fork” service strategy.
