We are developing the first completely portable (18 pounds) hemodialysis machine. The dialysis machine is modality neutral, meaning that it can be operated as a traditional single pass dialysis machine, or it can be operated as a closed loop machine using sorbent technology to continually regenerate dialysis solution (dialysate) using only 5 Liters (1 gallon) of water. This means that dialysis can be provided to patients anywhere at anytime regardless of the availability of a water source. We have developed proof of concept for the prototype and are now raising funds for the commercially viable machine.
