Opportunity: To acquire an existing toy store that specializes in educational toys that is available for sale due to planned retirement of owners. The store (begun in 2004 with sales of $252K) is known for its quality and unique toys which are not usually available in the mass merchandise stores. The store is located in an upscale community which is perfect for this type of store.
Problem: The store is small (1,000 sq. ft), has limited product selection, the location is not ideal for attracting customers, limited parking, and the owners have done little or no advertising relying on word of mouth and repeat business.
Strategy: Relocate the store to available space (3,000 sq. ft.) within a high traffic shopping center nearby, expand product selection and services, create an online webstore, and advertise using a marketing/catalog service specifically for the independent specialty toy store. We will achieve our goals because we are the only store in the area that is able to offer a fun and friendly shopping environment, with knowledgeable sales staff offering expert advice to parents looking for the perfect toy. Comparable area specialty toy store sales are $1M+.
