Description: The Joshua Rescue Foundation is A WONDERFUL place to be for a parrot whose life has been caught in the revolving door of repeated rescue and adoption. This is a place for parrots to recover, heal, thrive and flourish. To live in the closest way that they were intended to. unencumbered, happy and social. However, this is not their natural environment. Parrots do not come from a pet store or from a breeder, but originally from one of the few endangered Rainforest. The life expectancy of these parrots that live in captivity vs. their natural habitat and their heath is radically shortened. Their health and disease is a constant issue. We would like to address these problematic issues by building a Self Contained Rainforest/ Eco System 25'x50'. By creating the same canopy layers, humidity, flora and fauna within the structure, we will be able to adequately duplicate the same environment from where they originated. Our goal is to change the way Companion Parrots are cared for in captivity and to teach and inform the students and public of Cook County just how important our Rainforest are, how they work and change our planet. School children and the public will be able to stroll the pathways, touch, smell and hear what they many never experience otherwise. These Tropical Rainforests are important to EVERYONE, not just the plants, animals and beautiful birds. Much of our medicine comes from Rainforest formulas and only 1% of that has been tapped. The Rainforest contains huge amounts of carbon, while producing much of our Earths oxygen and helps our planets weather. Imagine going to school and as you step into your class, with the technology of the computer, web cameras, and a virtual classroom you are transported to the "Early Morning Wake-up" in The Rainforest. Hoots, Howls, Chattering, birds foraging for breakfast, Butterflies gently sipping (URL removed)maginable breathtaking beauty. Through class curriculum, the children will be able to study the geography, sociology, biology and the dwindling tribes who make their homes in the Rainforest. This will not only help acclimate these poached and abused birds but can become a great epicenter for our community and Crook County Children to get involved and savor the importance of our dwindling resources and our diminishing planet.
