Description:
Hi-
I moved to North Carolina from New York in June of 2007. I had no idea before I moved just how many animals were being put to sleep in shelters just because there wasn't enough room for them. It doesn't matter if they're healthy, a baby or just an overall great animal, they are being put down left and right, a lot of times in a very inhumane way [gassing, etc].
For almost four years it was just me and my two adorable bostons , Ty & Martini. Recently I went to one of the shelters and rescued a wonderful lab/pit mix, Hudson, who is the sweetest dog in the world. Before them, neither I or my family owned pets, now, we are ALL die hard pet lovers. It is my dream to change laws and horrible things going on in our country. I've gathered signed bills & written to our senator in NC about anti-chain laws, because there are too many animals suffering in horrid weather conditions and terrible surroundings while chained up. It's absolutely disgusting, especially in such a wonderful country.
It's my dream to buy a huge piece of land and have a facility, that feels like a home, for unwanted, homeless & abused animals. I can picture it cleary in my head how I would want it to look and function. I would have:
- A huge area for the dogs & cats
- A fully equipped vet hospital
- A training room
- A grooming room
- A pet shop for anyone who adopts a pet and needs things like, beds, bowls, leashes, etc.
- A huge fenced in piece of land for the animals to play, excercise and even swim.
- An Office/cafeteria for the staff
- A supply room
It wouldn't look like a jail like some shelters. It would be comfortable with a loving a staff. I would put a website up for adoptions/donations. Throw funraisers & adopt-a-thons. I would have transporting vehicles for out of state animals. My staff & I would contact as many shelters and take in animals that they would've put down. I would make sure that the entire country knew about it and create awareness about spaying/neutering. Hopefully it could be known nationwide and certain laws be stricter for animal abusers. The most important part would be not putting these animals down for no good reason & finding them loving homes.
My dream would cost a few million to start off and be done properly. If I wont lotto, this is what I would do with most of the money. I have a handful of close family & friends that would be more than happy to work with me. If I don't win lotto and I can get help from someone who's willing to donate that much to sucha wonderful cause, I'd be the happiest person in the world. Thank you.
Kindest regards,
Shabana :)
