POC Medical Systems is working on a simple blood test to be used for Point of Care diagnostics. The technology, was licensed out of Sandia and Lawrence Livermore national Labs. The key drivers being Low cost (less than $2 for the test), portability and large market. The technology is ready, proven and patented. The first product (for breast cancer detection, is also ready and is expected to be launched early next year. The technology basically is a Lab in a Box (on a CD) which checks for levels of certain clinically relevant Biomarkers and gives the values (similar to a cholesterol, or PSA test). We have already had significant traction from various groups in India and around the world. The other market which is in fact larger than India is China. FYI, there is over 1.6 Billion women and only 60 million of them are currently screened which is less than 4% of the women and of those over 500,000 are expected to die. This could be avoided if all women can be screened on a regular basis, resulting in early intervention.
