Diamond mining is a high risk business, but like business ventures with high risks, the reward is enormous. Mining diamonds is a numbers game in terms of the amount of acreage stripped. The quantity of gravel excavated, thereafter, affects the expected outcome. Therefore, the use of earth moving equipment is very relevant. We own two - a Komatsu excavator and a Cat dozer.
Chief Gbondo, my dad, and his 50yrs experience has been helpful. His knowledge of the terrain in Kono – the diamond area - is unprecedented. He has unearthed a-308 carats using rudimentary methods.
Operations in 2004 was a relative success. In two months, we unearthed 250 carats, and 37carats were brought to the US to be cut and polished. The finished goods were valued at $85,000, but 5 of 8
