Years ago, I decided to develop the sort of licensing practice in media and technology that was proactive in assisting a select group of clients, early stage companies. Picking great clients allows me to spend my time with people of conviction, dedication and drive, and provide excellent legal and business development help at a low up front rate. For ultra-early stage companies that I select, I will donate a small number of hours per month for free in which I can solve strategic problems or overcome small hurdles. Even as I have expanded into sales of small businesses, technology, franchise and other transactions, the rule remains the same: find companies with people you can believe in and help them move forward in every way you can.
The same should apply to you. Pick the attorney who will be there for you when you need him, who is listening to your goals, dedicated to the growth of your business, and who is truly curious about you. Whether you are starting an App Development company, financing a webisodic series, opening a hotel chain, launching an ad campaign, or selling assets of your web-based company, I would be interested in getting to know your business and discussing your needs.
