Motagg Solutions was set up as a training company for civil/structural engineers, to establish quality in their professional role. I have worked in many locations around the world and seen the same problems in how the engineers perform their work. It is lacklustre, archaic and not very exciting.
I estimate that 80% of engineers spend 80% of their time doing calculations and 80% of them 'hate' it. And they work alone. Imagine me telling them how I 'love' it and why. I demonstrate what a good calculation looks like and show them how to generate it. It is a career-changing moment for most engineers.
To a room of engineers I ask five simple questions:
1) Do you like doing calculations?
2) When was the las time you saw a calculation and said, Wow! What a nice document?
3) When was the last time you used Word?
4) How good are you in Excel?
5) When was the last time you had any training in your job?
The answer is always 95% negative.
Since October 2005 I have been working as a civil/structural engineering consultant to write the books and add time and distance between the companies I have worked for and the ideas I write about, to preserve intellectual property.
The Mote Method, is not just about Word or Excel, it is about the engineer and the bigger role they should play in the team. This is leveraged through better calculations and becoming a leader.
Now the company wants to launch into seminars and marketing of The Mote Method to the global Civil/Structural Engineering community
