Description:
We are seeking $1.2 million for the movie titled "WTF!" in order to accomplish the following:
Pre-Production: The design and planning of every step needed in order to create the film. We will begin and confirm all casting. The crew will be hired and equipment will be secured for physical production. The Director will go over every aspect of Creative with all department heads (i.e. Cinematographer, Production Designer, Costumer, Make-up, Editor). The “Production side” of the crew (Assistant Director, Production Manager, Production Coordinator) will begin the scheduling process as well as any logistics for locations and day-to-day operations. Cast will go through fittings and rehearsal time or “table reads” with the director, and begin preparation for filming. The color palette of the film will be set, as well as the shot list, which will determine how much will be shot daily, and when. This will also determine how the film will be edited in Post. Everything that is carefully pieced together in the Pre-Production stage directly affects physical Production, then carries on to Post-Production.
Production: The film is created and shot, or filmed. During physical Production, offices are moved “on location”. For WTF!, due to the location demands of the script (i.e. A Cabin in the Woods), the Production team will move to a more remote location in or around Los Angeles for a large portion of the scheduled shooting days. Production costs include---but are not exclusive to---shoot locations, crew, equipment, parking, catering, visual effects equipment, and general office expenses. The entirety of the film will be shot in the “Studio Zone” to minimize production costs for both Cast and Crew. Other expenses include payroll companies for Union Actors, and fringes and dues that are applied to each Actor’s salary that is sent to SAG. Production creates the image and sound, and is then taken into Post-Production.
Post-Production: The film is edited---or assembled---by the film Editor, and the final components are put into place. Post-Production costs include the Editor, who is paid for their daily work assembling the film, Post Sound Mix, which is where sound is sharpened and enhanced, and is put into the proper channels for theater sound quality. There are many Sound Mixers and Artists. This process includes Foley: the live recording of sound effects; ADR: the process in which actors add additional lines if necessary; Final Mixes; and of course, Music. The Composer is another integral part of the Post process, as they set the tone and mood of the film. WTF! plans to have a very cutting edge score, which will add to the marketability of the film. WTF! will also be “Special Effects heavy”, meaning Computer Generated Imagery (CGI) will be necessary. Finally, the product moves on to Color Correction, or Telecine, and the Final Mastering of the completed film to various formats. Another cost of Post will include mastering to the multiple desired formats (HDCAM-SR, D5‘s, Digibeta tapes, DVDs, etc.).
Marketing and Distribution: Many films today, regardless of their budget, do not allot for marketing and distribution, which can ultimately hurt their chances of receiving any sort of exposure. Distribution is covered in Post-Production, with the process of securing masters for companies. When a Distributor picks up a movie, they require the “master” through whichever medium the film will be distributed (DVD, VOD, Theatrical, etc.). Marketing, as stated in the Marketing section of this packet, is a cost that most Distribution Companies do not account for, or do not cover thoroughly.
