The Forest Grove Cemetery Project is an effort of volunteers who grew up and attended the public schools in Lexington, MO. The cemetery, primarily of African American descendants, has been sorely (URL removed)uments destroyed, wrought iron fence in disrepair, graves sunken in, markers missing, no security which has resulted in vandalism, defacing headstones and burning of areas. The Committee is addressing this neglect head on, but needs financial assistance to restore to site, secure and beautify the cemetery, which houses the remains of pre-Civil War vets, famous baseball players and many others who contributed to the rich history of Lexington and surrounding small towns, yet their identity is unknown. The Committee consists of 4 dedicated individuals who are original Lexingtonians--1 in Lexington, 2 in KCMO and 1 in St. Louis; but the entire community of Lexington-involving the Boy Scouts, religious and civic communities, surrounding small towns and those who live out of state have expressed an interest to be involved and engaged in this effort of love.
