Next, roughen the floor surface to provide a good bond with the new finish. The easiest way to do this is with a circular buffing machine that you can rent. Use a 150-grit abrasive screen with the buffer. Never use steel wool on a surface that will receive a water-based finish. Even a tiny bit of steel wool on the floor will rust once the finish is applied and create a black stain that's very difficult to repair.

The lamella is the face layer of the wood that is visible when installed. Typically it is a sawn piece of timber.
The timber can be cut in three different styles: flat-sawn, quarter-sawn, and rift-sawn. However, because only one side of the wood is visible on flooring, "quarter-sawn" and "rift-sawn" will have the same appearance.
