All patients receiving hemodialysis require some type of vascular access to allow blood to be removed from the body, dialyzed, and returned. Current methods of vascular access include a surgically created native fistula, surgically implanted AV graft, or a Central Venous Catheter. Phraxis Inc.’s first product for commercialization, the InterGraft™, will be a vascular access device that is inserted using a standard percutaneous approach and established interventional techniques. The InterGraft™ provides all the benefits of a surgically-implanted AV graft or fistula but allows non-surgical insertion, provides immediate availability for cannulation and dialysis (which a fistula cannot provide), and minimizes or eliminates the complications associated with central venous catheter use. The InterGraft™ can potentially provide a cost effective solution to vascular access for hemodialysis by eliminating the serious complications associated with catheter use.
