The name Two State BBQ comes from our background. Our lead Pit-Master, Lionel Bateman III, was born and raised here in Edenton, NC. Growing upon Eastern style BBQ he was influenced from a young age of the craft of BBQ. Sara Bateman is from the Delta of Mississippi. The flavors of Mississippi is the polar opposite of the flavors of Eastern NC. Instead of a thin vinegar sauce, its more of a thicker sweet sauce. Blending the flavors of both regions is something we strive for in all our foods.
Lionel was just recently invited to attend Kingsford University hosted by Chris Lilly, a six time world BBQ champion. While he was there he learned different techniques by one of the greatest Pit-masters today.
