ISW is to be formed as a NP Sheltered Workshop to provide training and long term employment opportunities for the growing population of high functioning autistic (Aspberger's Syndrome, PDD-NOS) children emerging into adulthood in the Spokane Region. Plan is to employ (1)one special-ed qualified, semi-retired or mature and experienced shop teacher, to supervise a millwork and cabinet shop serving from one to six (1-6) client employees. Bookkeeping, accounting, and grant administration will be contracted with a local nonprofit social agency, church, or school. Volunteer board will be three to nine, and may include family and friends of the target population. Products will be direct marketed and sold through regional retailers and distributors, in lumber stores, picture framing shops, hardware stores, furniture stores, home centers, and through inerior decorators, and architects. Expect to be self supporting within one to three (1-3) years, depending on the economy and regional housing markets. Funds are required for organization and start up operations for a six month coverage period, for purchase or lease and installation of shop machinery, supplies and initial lumber inventory, and to locate, buy, build, or long term lease a 40'x60'light industrial shop building with restrooms, breakroom, office and display showroom. Rough estimate of need is $150,000, to be verified during planning to be completed within 30 days.
