Description: To whom it may concern, Hello, my name is Mark Gruner, I am 26 years old. I own a patent (us# 6802088) on a handicap bathtub, called Comfort Bed Bath. In 2000 my grandmother and grandfather, both were diagnosed with cancer. They became ill very fast and were bedridden for months. My grandmother would cry for a real bath, and we could not afford to hire people to come in and lift her into the tub. Her nurse could not do it alone so my family and I lifted her into the tub when we could. One night my father and I were at dinner and thought of the idea for the tub. One year later my father was also diagnosed with cancer and died after a short 18 months. After his passing I finished the patent for the bathtub. The bathtub is completely portable and has one removable side wall. It is designed to roll on a gurney to the side of a patients bed, remove the side wall, slide the patient into the bathtub, fill it with water and turn on the hydro therapy. This allows bathing next to the bed with little lifting and less stress on the patient. The tub is made of plastic, and all materials are FDA approved. This tub also gives people with mobility issues the opportunity to live comfortably in there own homes. I've done the research to obtain Medicare approval on the tub but need funding to do some necessary adjustments to the mold, production costs and cost of re-submission to Medicare. Below are some interesting facts on the baby boomer generation as well as disability information. In 1999, the U.S. Congressional Budget Office (1999) projected that Medicare and Medicaid long-term care expenditures for older adults would roughly double in constant-dollar terms between 2000 and 2020; total expenditures were projected to almost triple in constant-dollar terms between 2000 and 2040. About one in five U.S. residents - 19 percent - reported some level of disability in 2005, according to U.S. Census Bureau report. These 54.4 million Americans are roughly equal to the combined total populations of California and Florida. Both the number and percentage of people with disabilities were higher than in 2002, the last time the Census Bureau collected such information. At that time, 51.2 million, or 18 percent, reported a disability. Among those with a disability, 35 million, or 12 percent of the population, were classified as having a severe disability, according to Americans With Disabilities: 2005. As you can see by these statistics, this product is a very lucrative investment in our futures. I look forward to securing funding in order to move forward with production in the near future. Please let me know if you or anyone you know might be interested in speaking with me. Respectfully, Mark Gruner
