Supportive and palliative care are areas of high importance in oncology in order to achieve optimal outcomes in cancer treatment.
Supportive care measures can prolong survival, increase survival rates, improve quality of life and reduce cost of cancer care. The cure for cancer cannot be achieved without proper supportive care.
Presently, there is a limitation of branded treatment options available for patients, which leads to providers and patients to find solutions through:
- Compounding pharmacies to order compounded medications to try to manage symptoms, insurance often
does not cover compounded (non-branded)
- Over-the-counter options that are available to patients deliver limited to no relief.
