Cactus Health Services, Inc (CHS) is an FQHC in operation since 2003. CHS provides services
to the low income, uninsured, and underserved populations of Brewster, Terrell and Pecos
Counties in southwest Texas. The organization currently operates its primary care
clinic facility in the city of Fort Stockton, Texas. The program support is mainly through federal grants, and
donations to continue its mission of addressing health care needs and barriers to care.
Cactus Health Clinic Project Goal - Address the need for health services in the community and the
target population:
Socioeconomic barriers are a continuing concern as the service area is experiencing increasing
poverty and has much higher rates of the uninsured than either the state or nation. This combination of
factors has placed the health and wellness o fthe community in jeopardy. The prevailing issues for the region
include high teen birth rates, poor birth outcomes, infectious disease prevalence, obesity, diabetes,
hypertension, liver disease and limited participation in preventive and/or wellness activities.
