When a drug possession trial goes into deliberations in Houston, Texas, one sympathetic juror fights to prevent an almost certain conviction of an AIDS patient for using medical marijuana, because she believes the law to be immoral.
The film navigates uncharted territory, and examines one of the most controversial issues in criminal justice - jury nullification. Under the legal doctrine of jury nullification, if the jury believes that the law is unjust or unjustly applied, they can vote to acquit the defendant. All the jurors, except for Sara Linton, are convinced that they should vote guilty. How can she convince them otherwise, when the evidence is overwhelmingly against the defendant? Mandatory punishment for the defendant will be tantamount to a death sentence.
