The “BUCK” Engine
The “Buck” engine is all about durability, interchangeability, serviceability and reparability. It offers a market changing approach to engine construction and assembly. A family of engines that are modular in design, these engines will be lighter, more compact, more powerful and more emissions friendly. With the initial offering ranging from 300 to 2300 HP and future designs over 5000 horsepower, these engines will cover a large market segment. Designed from the bottom up with a totally different approach, these engines are capable of exceptional cooling. This exceptional cooling ability is accomplished by delivering coolant to each cylinder individually. Using individual and shorter cooling paths, hot spots and temperature stacking are eliminated. A shorter cooling path (20 inches for the Buck, other engines can be 8 feet or more) means more coolant changes per hour. Better fuel economy from an improved fuel system as well as a much lighter overall design (as much as 50% lighter), will quickly impress the market. With a focus on interchangeability of parts, these new designs will reduce inventories by as much as 60%. Service and repair time will be cut as much as 90% due to the individual cylinder and head replacement capability. The “NO MACHINING REQUIRED” concept eliminates the need for removal or re-manufacturing. Warranty cost should be reduced by 80% or more and there will be no damage to the vessel during repair. An entire gasket set can be shipped in a small plastic bag. Reduced motor freight shipment of parts will reduce cost as well as the carbon footprint (since cylinders and heads are small and light and can be shipped by UPS or Fed X). Shipping transportation cost may be reduced by as much as 80%. The final designs use gear driven devices so the Buck engines will run without belts. The gear driven oil pump is externally mounted for easy service or replacement. There is no need to remove the oil pan to clean the oil strainer or replace the oil pump. Utilizing a unique sleeve design, there is no need for a ring squeezer when installing the pistons. The Buck engine is scalable and can be designed to work in any IC engine application. It can be equipped to operate on any gaseous or liquid fuel. Other improvements reduce friction, improve combustion, enhance longevity, allow for easier service and substantially reduce cost of operation. The Buck engine is a standard four valve four stroke design that has been well proven. There is nothing strange about the Buck engine. It takes a very practical approach to manufacture and assembly, resulting in exceptional benefits and value for the customer. The Buck engine is applicable to all IC engine markets.
With this design, a single cylinder, including the connecting rod, can be replaced in under 10 minutes.
