Description: I sit here aching in disolution and pain while trying to eek through the system as I feel discriminated agains over and over again. Yes I have had cancer and I have even had a recurrence. I am in remission. But I refuse to give up--I will be arount to party as a centegenarian. I have spend my adult life as a responsible citizen of this country. When I was struck with this horrendous diagnosis, my husband and I were totally unprepared for the consequences that would hurl our world out of control. We both had ALWAYS been terrific credit risks. When I was struck down in my late forties, I had already proved myself by purchasing a home and paying for it (as did my husband his home). We were always very conscientious at paying ALL of our bills. With my income suddenly taken out of the equation since my initial surguries and post treatments (weekly) prohibited my from working as a hotel manager. I was released from my employment which I later resumed only to be felled a second time. I am currently cancer-free. I have been receiveing disability for a couple of years while I still plan to someday resume my hotel career. Of course, immediately after my diagnosis, our finances took a nose dive. We were a two income household that suddenly had to live on one and my husband did every thing that he could to keep us afloat. It took from 2003 (when I was first diagnoses) until this past fall to finally break the camel's back (so to speak) the additional medical expenses and the reduction in income forced us to file for bankruptcy. We have discovered that the housing market in Las Vegas is astounding and we decided that because my husband could transfer to Las Vegas, we should consider relocating. Our expenses would practically be cut in half! Unfortunately, I am now being punished again for being sick and I truly feel that it cannot be more unfair. I have always tried to be the best person I could possibly be and I do not feel that it is right that someone like me who has always been an upstanding citizen should be treated so cruelly by the system. I feel that an exception for someone with a medical bankruptcy as recent as ours should be granted so that we can take advantage of the current market and improve our current financial situation. We really can't afford another lawyer, do we always have to spend so much money to achieve the rights that should be inherent in the system? Mortgage considerations need to be made on a more individualized system that can account for such things as an exemplary past credit history. There is no possible reason to believe that I am not a good credit risk. What lesson was I to have learned from my bout with cancer? Why am I being punished so severely for something that I had no control over and we tried EVERYTHING we could prior to filing--it was clearly not our first option or we would have done it much sooner, do you not see that? I am also a veteran that should be eligible for VA loan guarantee and I will most likely have to appeal there too. All this takes so much time that I fear all the best opportunities will be long gone and again only the wealthy, less-deserving shall prosper from these trying economic times.
