Description:
MicroDysis, Inc., is an instrumentation company that manufactures biomedical and environmental devices and equipment. Over last five years, based upon unique and patented micro- and nano-fabrication platform technologies for assembling carbon nanotubes, making microfluidic devices, and integrating microsystems, two products, nanoCuvette and fluidic array, have been developed.
A cuvette is a type of laboratory vessel made of plastic, glass, or optical grade quartz, to hold a liquid sample for spectroscopic measurement. MicroDysis has developed a fluidic cuvette (nanoCuvette) for detecting and quantifying biological organisms, biotoxins and chemicals in water. The nanoCuvette provides superior detection sensitivity and can be used with all commercially available UV/VIS spectrophotometers or spectrofluometers, and especially with hand-held or portable devices for highly sensitive (ppt) point-of-use real-time detection.
The nanoCuvette and the Fluidic Array are targeted to customers in chemical and biological detections in environmental protection, homeland security, anti-doping athletics, pharmaceutical and academic research, and clinical analysis and diagnosis. The nanoCuvette provides simple and quick test of one or several agents in a single sample, and the Fluidic Array provides sophisticated and parallel analysis of multiplex agents in multiple samples.
New sensor technology combined with micro- and nanofabrication technology is expected to lead to small, portable, and highly accurate sensors to detect chemical and biochemical parameters. According to a research report done by BCC Research on nanosensors, the nanosensor market in the United States was estimated at $190 million in 2004 and was expected to grow at an average annual growth rate of 26% to reach $592 million by 2009.
According to Technical Insight published by Frost & Sullivan, the current trend in the industry is to have detection systems that possess high sensitivity, selectivity, specificity, detection speed, reliability and wide detection range and which operates with minimal or no false-alarms for reliable, portable, rapid, and inexpensive technology for chemical, biological, and radiological, and nuclear detections. MicroDysis's nanoCuvette and Fluidic Array can meet these requirements, which represent a substantial commercial opportunity for MicroDysis.
