Description:
The following statements contain the written general details on the construction and use of the Patented (Patent # US 7,137,881 B2) Quantum Sleeper invented by Jeffrey Lee Walling
The Invention is called the Quantum Sleeper. In the same spirit as a "Safe Room" this is a "Safe Bed". Visit (URL removed) to get a full scope of the idea.
The basic Quantum Sleeper unit consists of an aluminum bed frame and headboard with polycarbonate, bullet proof plating that is designed to provide a protective barrier (cover shields) between a perpetrator or environmental condition and the homeowners or occupants. The bullet proof polycarbonate barrier is designed to stop bullet penetration, blows from impact, forced entry and provide a sealed temporary safe room and environment from burglars, terrorist or harmful gasses and also provide protection from the destructive forces of tornados, hurricanes, earthquakes and floods. The unit can also be fitted with defensive devices customized to the requests of the purchasers such as tear gas spray, robotic arms, or projectile weaponry. It is designed to enable the person(s) inside the unit to see out and prevent those outside from seeing in. The unit will be equipped with a bio-chemical filter in case of bio-chemical attack and a rebreather system to enable the operator to seal off all outside air and provide breathable air for a specified amount of time. This system is used in such a case where the unit operator may need to release tear gas or another form of gaseous material in defense against a burglar or terrorist. The rebreather system is also useful as the ultimate protection (safe room) from weapons of mass destruction that may be used during biological warfare, chemical warfare, bio-chemical attack or other type gas attack that could release an unknown or new form of hazardous gas. There are doors on either side of the unit next to the headboard that have an emergency release button that when pressed will cause the doors to pop open in case of mechanical failure or loss of power to the operating systems.
Some of the design characteristics of the basic Quantum Sleeper are as follows:
1. Bullet proof cover shields made of Polycarbonate Plastic 1.25” thick, operated by electronic screw lift/jack systems.
2. Aluminum angle bed frame and headboard to support bedding and shield covers.
3. Air and watertight sealing.
4. Environmental audio amplifier to hear and amplify sounds from outside the unit.
5. Filtered venting system operated by electronic fans and solenoid valves.
6. Rebreather system to provide breathing air in the event that the venting systems are closed for protection from hazardous outside atmospheric conditions.
7. Control panel for all operating system such as venting, cover shields opening and closing, phone systems, sound systems (such as the audio amplifier, microphones and radio), defensive systems, alarm systems, 02 sensors, motion detection systems, smoke detection systems, etc.
8. Remote control device.
9. Environmental (AC/Heating) control systems
10. Backup battery power systems in the case of power failure or interruption.
11. Toiletry System.
The consumer will have the choice of the unit bedding sizing and shape (i.e. circular instead of rectangular), units built for fire resistance with laminated fire retardant plastics and water circulation systems, Video screen adapted to the head cover shield for playing video games and for computer hookups. There will be models with integrated PC systems. Family units (Quantum Sleepers tailored for families with two or more units electronically linked together) that will be equipped so that a parent or guardian can remotely operate the children’s units from their sleeper and be able to view and talk with them from the safety of the their unit. Additional design features may include structural reinforcing to provide protection from tornados, hurricanes, earthquakes and floods making this an even more secure safe bed, safe room & bomb shelter. One more step in personal home security system and Homeland Security.
POLYCARBONATE PLATING
The unit is fitted with polycarbonate plastic plating (covering/shielding). Polycarbonate plastic has many desirable characteristics for this application. The 1.25” thick plating is constructed of laminated sheets and is capable of stopping a bullet from a hand gun up to a 57 magnum caliber. This material is impact resistance and will actually become harder in the strike area when struck by a hard object. This material has a tensile strength of 9,000 psi with a Specific Gravity of 1.2. The plates for the head and leg covers are fabricate as separate plates and then welded together to make one solid piece. The 1.25” plating weighs 8.1 lbs/ft2. The head cover plates total weight for a queen sized mattress is approximately 360lbs and the leg cover total weight is approximately 600lbs. Total weight of all the polycarbonate plastic plating to be used for a queen sized mattress is approximately 1658lbs.
The plating will be colored to order specifications and will not be "see through" (although that is an option). The out side surfaces can be plated with stained pine wood paneling to give it a nice wood grain finish. The head cover side and front plates will be clear but w/ reflective characteristics that will allow the unit occupants to see out but prevent those on the outside from seeing in. The polycarbonate plating together provide for the main attributes of a safe bed, safe room & bomb shelter.
