Leximo is a social dictionary that invites users to submit words in all the world's languages.
History:
Two college students, were disappointed with the current selection of dictionaries on the web. These dictionaries were either too academic, too out- dated, too cluttered and most important of all, lacked user interaction. Feeling the urge to help this dilemma, we decided to create a dictionary that would bring together the world’s cultures and languages using the technology of today’s information age.
Operation:
Users can contribute to the dictionary by ranking each word. Each term can have multiple definitions, each of which are submitted by a different user. Due to the rating system, inappropriate or unpopular definitions are virtually buried under higher-ranked definitions. Since Leximo is an international web dictionary, it contains jargon, slang, neologisms, names, or other sayings in all the different languages of the world as submitted by visitors to the site.
Content:
Leximo differs from traditional dictionaries as well as other currently existing web dictionaries in that it contains words from all the different languages in the world. In addition, it’s accessible to visitors of different cultures and backgrounds in a simple and easy to use interface that defines the Web 2.0 era.
