Description:
A quick intro to Impostor Magazine, a new, independently owned and operated fashion and photography magazine based in Seattle, Washington. Impostor began as a small, rather simple idea to create a solely digital magazine to present online. However, as time went on, we began to notice that many designers, photographers and other creative minds had been craving an outlet of this sort for quite some time and had just been waiting for the right people to deliver it to them.
After accepting photographic submissions, it became clear that these works of art needed to be showcased properly. The decision was made to produce a quarterly print of Impostor by selecting the best submissions of work and compiling them into a coffee-table quality magazine. We select works that are a tribute to fashion, modeling, photography and creative inspiration.
Many fashion magazines accept submissions and the selections are based on what works for the “season” and “trends” that are currently being shown in the fashion industry. Our goal is to showcase works not solely on the fashions they may showcase, but on the merit of the work – the creative eye, the inspiration and the passion that went into capturing the images. Photographers are often vying for the chance to be selected for an ad campaign, or a storyline spread. We are empowering the photographers and other artistic minds involved by asking them to present their work to us how they would like it to be showcased. We are admittedly trying to push the boundaries. We try to select images that are both “safe” and beautiful, as well as shocking and slightly uncomfortable. Our readers seem to appreciate the mix of styles within the pages of one publication, it forces them to think and be alert while flipping the pages, rather than becoming complacent and bored.
We have received inquiries as to whether we will be adding more written content to the magazine. Our feeling is that there are plenty of magazines on the market that advise readers on how to dress, what’s in, what’s out and where to buy everything from lipstick to fur coats. Our goal is to inspire the readers to think on their own. While we plan to include an occasional interview or insight into the industry, we are trying to avoid “articles.” We want our readers to open their eyes to new perspectives of beauty through the various images. Our hope is they will be inspired to create their own fashion identity through the inspirations of a broad collection of creative elements.
