Effcon is in the final stages of development of a once-a-day version of methazolamide. This product is used to treat intraocular pressure (IOP), primarily in glaucoma patients. Upon approval, it will be the only oral medication available in a once daily format for this purpose. Once daily dosing greatly increases patient compliance and is highly valued by physicians. Our project has completed Phases I, II and III with FDA and we are being required to conduct additional clinical work, which is the purpose of our funding initiative. When approved, this product will have three years of market exclusivity, plus a composition and method of use patent which is enforceable through September 2018. We have invested over $8.5 million in this program and expect to be finished (and approved) in about 20 to 24 months.
