I propose to create a subscriber based website where people can see two new short films by myself, Hal Hartley, each month; one non-fiction and one fiction.
The non-fiction film will, wherever possible, be investigations of some current artistic, cultural, or political personality or group who come through New York, where I am based. However, I travel a lot too and meet many fascinating people. I will make films about these travels and the people I meet.
The fiction films will be episodes from a series called The Current Crisis, a funny, sexy, and thought provoking story about the adventures of a down-on-his-luck movie producer caught up in this changing technological world.
Both the non-fiction and fiction episodes share a common preoccupation with illustrating the speed at which technological change and social mores occur.
The site is also a store where one can purchase DVDs of my previous films, CDs of my music, and books related to my career.
We will organize each year’s collection of fiction and non-fiction films and publish a handsomely designed and crafted DVD annually.
