Description:
Turbo Electric is in pre-start-up phase and seeking funding for the
development, demonstration, and commercialization of heavy-duty
(Class 8) Electric Trucks powered by our patented, Open BreytonCycle Automotive
Power Unit, or “Lewis Engine”. The power unit was designed by Ralph
Lewis and Prof. David Wilson of MIT and is unique in-that it generates
electricity on-demand using clean domestic fuel (Liquid Natural Gas). This
new application of existing technologies combines electric propulsion with
our patented Gas Turbine and Thermal Energy Storage technology to
replace the traditional diesel powered internal combustion engine that
currently dominates commercial transportation. We believe that within 24
months of funding we’ll be able to demonstrate, and begin taking orders
for a new generation of clean, turbo-electric trucks that will represent:
- an 80% improvement in power-to-weight ratio over existing diesel trucks
- a ‘Fuel-&-Go’ Electric truck that is not constrained by the need for heavy battery arrays, limited range, and plug-in recharging cycles.
- a highly efficient fuel system that stores and uses regenerated thermal energy harvested from the gas turbine exhaust and vehicle braking,
- up to 90% reduction in emissions of Particulate Matter and Nitrogen Oxide from the LNG turbine when compared with a typical diesel engine (US Department of Energy studies)
- a new purchase option for US fleet owners pressed to comply with tough new emissions regulations and keen on moving the trucking industry away from foreign oil dependency and onto domestically produced Liquid Natural Gas.
