Description:
In the year 2000, I did something VERY rational. I incorporated my company and launched my first line of women’s handbags under the Not Rational brand.
Put simply, these were bags that I loved but had a hard time finding; bags that were comfortable, practical, simple, and fashionable.
When the mother of all stores, Barneys New York, put in a huge order, Not Rational suddenly started to make sense. "That's what opened the door to everything else. Once you say that you sell at Barney's, everything happens."
Then, In 2004, I designed a high-end, rock and roll, all leather diaper bag for the glamorous mother. This product was an instant success, especially with the celebrity mothers. Stores that had a maternity division like Barneys, Kitson, Scoop and more, started to carry the line.
Since then, Not Rational have grown every year and in 2005 generated revenues of more than $1 million. Not Rational now sells bags and diaper bags all over the world through high-end department stores and boutiques such as Barneys New York, Scoop, Kitson, Yoya, Fred Segal, Lisa Kline, Curve Holt Renfrew, Isetan, Harvey Nichols, to name a few. The collection has been featured in a number of fashion magazines such as Elle, Lucky, Vogue, Collezioni, Bazaar, Movies, TV shows, etc.
My plan is to take Not Rational to the next level. Investing in better avenues to attract sales, brand exposure and improve the quality of the products.
As chief designer, I own the 100% of the business, keeping my focused on the main vision – creating high quality bags that are both versatile and fun to carry – while working on all levels of the production process to meet the increasing consumer demand for our products.
What makes the bags so unique is not just the tremendous quality in which they're made, but also their look. Handbags that are functional and versatile (In other words: very rational) proving that sometimes that “not being rational can lead to great triumph.”
