Description: KAC (Kinetic Artivist Collective) aims to create art that gives voice, renders unseen stories, and works to change seemingly hopeless circumstances, in a limitless palate of communities, mediums, and media while providing unique employment to emerging/marginalized artists in the Cape Town Community. Our "artivist projects" (see description of Captive Rawkus below) seek to address a wide range of community issues including poverty, AIDS, support for refugees, and creative outlets for those who need them. KAC is a social enterprise that works together to make money and positively impact the community of Cape Town. We carry out projects like Captive Rawkus, a four part series of collaborative artistic workshops. Using hip-hop as a reference point, Captive Rawkus combines performance and visual art with collective social movement and education. Stop Motion is a visual journalist project that engages street kids in creative outlets. Participants will collect their own stories as well as learn a plethora of art skills including, photography, paint, sculpture, and animation. Stop Motion will further culminate into a collection of public service announcements in print and video. KAC engages in sustainable participatory development, self/community empowerment, creativity/ innovation, questioning, communicating, entertaining , challenging, un/re-learning and co-learning, and collective movement. Thus, we hope to reach a wide range of people within the Cape Town community. Our project Captive Rawkus is specifically aimed at reaching imprisoned youth and street kids. Each project, however, aims to reach a specific group of people. Other project target groups include women involved in sex work/prostitution, gay youth, refugees, domestic violence survivors, ect.
