Description:
Indie Soul Productions is a recently formed independent film company, currently producing music videos, short-films, documentaries, comedy skits, and VERY SOON, commercials and features.
The ways to make money here are A) Doing music videos. B) Album producing/sound-recording work for bands. C) Producing commercials or instructional videos for corporations/small businesses. AND D) Shooting feature-length, independent films.
"D" is the big one. It has been well-documented throughout recent history that indie films made for below $40,000 are capable of going on to make MAJOR RETURNS in the Box Office. (With proper distributing, of course.) The business model works as follows. We shall use "Napolean Dynamite" as a business concept model:
1. Filmed for less than $40,000 in Idaho/Utah.
2. Once completed, goes on to the Sun Dance Film Festival, where it cleans house.
3. A major distributor (in this case, MTV) takes on the film and agrees to mass-release it, for a cut, of course.
4. The film, being a quirky, cult-classic, goes on to make $45 million in the box office.
There are many other examples of independently produced films that go on to do well when released, but were made for very little. (Other examples include: The Blair Witch Project, Clerks, etc.) The main point here is this: YOU CAN'T LOSE.
1. Most funding goes to equipment purchases. This means, worse case scenerio, "If we fail" we simply sell the assets (the equipment) and get the money back.
2. Music videos, weddings, commercials, and other corporate gigs are all proven money-makers... So even without a successful feature, this is still a worthy enterprise.
3. Crew costs are minimal. Most of the staff are young film-makers who have produced quality material in the past, but are hungry to make a feature. For that opportunity, they will work for "pennies on the dime." The idea is to get our stories out there, build up our resumes, and challenge ourselves for the American Dream. (And, to make YOU money.)
In short, this endeavor is low-risk, high-reward. What more could you ask for? If you are interested, or have any questions, feel free to contact me at any time, via the web site, email address, or phone. Any of the above works just fine.
