Description:
Before the Transition, Inc., (BTT) started in 2009; by helping a shelter of single young mothers ages 17-24 with mentoring, employment development, life skills, motivation and computer training. One day a counselor called me, and mention that one of the young ladies had a job interview and needed a suit. I reached out to people I know, and the word was out “single mother in need of a suit” had a overwhelming response, and that gave me the inspiration to start my clothing closet for those in need.
BTT help over 200 families, children, youth/foster, juvenile youth, seniors, veterans, men/women, new contributors (with felony’s); men and women that are going through law enforcement re-entry programs, and will reach out people with disabilities that are in need too. Also, we have assisted after school programs for at-risk families in the community.
Helping people in need with professional clothing, workshops on how to get a job, such as the Foster Youth before they transition out of the system, Veterans,/those with disabilities, Seniors that want to go back to work, and formally incarcerated.
Get a building to housed these individuals that get a job. Separate for Foster youth.
School of the Arts for Foster youth, and Veterans youth.
Employment Agency, to help assist these populations. Which will bring in revenue, after having company to hire participants.
Other investment would be to start a cleaners, cleaning construction service, and a restaurant (very unique, ideal is not out there yet, I will not mentioned until I get an investor about the type of restaurant) to create jobs from these populations.
Collaborations and Serviced
We are/have collaborated with various community base organizations (CBO’s), such as probationers of the DRC Center of the Los Angeles County Probation Department, law enforcement Honor and Strength Community Re-Entry and Rehabilitation Program, Women’s Treatment Program Los Angeles Metropolitan Churches (LAM/HOPICS) (women coming out of incarnation), Vinewood Re-Entry Federal Program, Department of Children Services – Transitional Youth Program, Pathway to Your Future (single mother shelter), Urban League, Volunteers of America (service center for veterans). Our newest collaboration is with the foster system Department of Children and Family Services, and the Sheriff's Youth Activities League.
Future Plans, as mentioned above: -employment agency, training center, clothing closet, food distribution, thrift store, resource center regarding health, housing, scholarships, center for the arts; dancing, singing,(URL removed). I like to see this center especially for the Veterans and those with disabilities and foster youth. But for all those low income all under one roof!
Our future plans are to secure a building so that we can have our own center with all of the resources to help the people that come through our program. We have been looking in areas of distress property, HUD and Enterprise Zones. We are looking to create businesses so we can create jobs for the unemployed, especially those in re-entry programs, and juveniles that have barriers. We want to give that “Second Chance” to these individuals.
Our supporters from 2009 to present have been:
Men’s Warehouse who has generously donated men suits, shirts, shoes, and ties for the re-entry probation department/law enforcement re-entry programs, foster youth, and has continue to do so as needed.
Etc......
BTT received an honorary award (May 11, 2010) from the Supervisors of the Los Angeles County (Supervisor Mark R. Thomas office) for the service that is being provided to the men at the DRC Center with Los Angeles County Probation Department with business attire, awarded by probation an Award of Thanks here in 2012.
BTT is on file as non-profit organization (501/c3) #27-1145135. We can provide a letter of acceptance from IRS for your files.
Thank you in advance for BTT the opportunity to collaborate with you, and we know that your organization can be part of our solution to providing services to help assist this population of individuals/families in need, and look forward to working with your organization.
