Chocolate City Beer LLC will operate as a small-scale microbrewery that will be located in Washington, D.C. The brewery occupies a space located at 2801 8th Street NE in the Brookland/Edgewood section of the city. This is a new business in the start-up phase, with manufacturing operations scheduled to begin on or before June 15, 2011.
Initial plans are to produce three stable brands for distribution. The beer styles that will be produced include:
• An American-style, pre-prohibition (before 1920) Pilsner beer
• An India Pale Ale (IPA)
• An Extra Special Bitter (ESB)
The Pilsner style beer may be substituted for an Copper Ale. Initially, beers produced by the Company will be brewed and distributed to local taverns, with future plans for retail and other distribution opportunities including overseas markets.
The beer will be sold in kegs to a local distributor for resale to the local and regional draught beer market, including D.C. with later plans to expand into surrounding Maryland and Virginia.
