The IVRC is focused on empowerment of the victims as well providing a resource for emotional, legal, and financial support to those who have been victims of Internet fraud, primarily Romance Scams.
Historical Data
The original form of Internet fraud has been the Nigerian Advance Fee Fraud, known internationally as "4-1-9" fraud after the section of the Nigerian penal code which addresses fraud schemes; they are often very creative and innovative. Initially, the intended victim is instructed to provide company letterheads and pro forma invoicing that will be used to show completion of the contract.
