Description: In May of 2010, my business transitioned from photography to publishing a magazine, Army Family 101. It came about from the photography that I had done for the military families as well as being a sponsor for MWR (Morale, Wellness, Recreation). I started learning more about the military and was surprised what I didn't know since had been a military spouse for 9 years. As I started learning more about the military community and the programs/services available to us and figured I was not the only one who didn't know what there was available to us. I have looked into the demographics of our area, other publications and have found what I am providing noone else is, even the Army as a whole. I have since come out with 5 issues. I have tried to hire personal to sell advertising with no success. I work closely still as a sponsor for MWR so I am aware of the advertising dollars that are available and those who want to reach the military community. As I am publisher, photographer, and writer I am needless to say very busy to get out there and get the needed advertisements. Since the 3 issue, I have had two other bases interested in my magazine as well. The long term goal is to expand to the other bases but in order to do so I need the capital to one, hire an experience sales person for advertising or two. As of right now, my writers are all contributing but I would like to be able to hire a staff writer as well. My local MWR has expressed interest in wanting my magazine, so I know I have something but I would rather the Army as a whole have the magazine. It has great potential but I have taken it far as I and my pocket book will take it. To see the magazine you can go to my website: (URL removed) as all five issues are on the site.
