It is apparent that the need for adequate student housing has outrun the University of Mississippi's ability to supply such housing. Also, because of the tightened real estate market low income families are having a harder time finding living quarters in Oxford and Lafayette County. These conditions make it clear that a situation exists that needs to be addressed. My idea is to acquire foreclosed properties and make them available to students and lower income families. This can be done because, typically, foreclosed property can be bought below market, so rents can be less then market and still be enough to satisfy debt service and expenses. Another point is that university area housing has maintained good value and is poised to grow more into the future.
