We have developed a software that allows musicians and record labels to give away their music downloads for free and advertisers to pay per download for an advertisement banner on the album artwork. The advertiser logs into a system similar to google adwords that allows them to set a budget, pick a demographic, the set a bid price and their ads are placed on downloads according to demographic info and highest bid.
